Michael Hayes is an ever evolving Self Taught artist who currently lives and works in Campobello, S.C.and Burgundy,France. His preferred media is oil paintings. His paintings spiritually ignite into organic fluidity flows, using several techniques, Lyrically Abstract ,Action, marking to Spiritually realistic. Dimensionally they are deep and brushed with spiritual light, where water appears universal.
At his core is an Activist concern is to bring about " Accountable Water Awareness"
Michael's artistic career began in the 1980's in New York City where this rich artistic and cultural submersion formed him. Taking inspiration from the nearby Hampton beaches and also from his numerous sojourns in Italy, his love of the oceans translated into close up forms and colors taken from the sea life and the endless reflection of lights . He deepened his studies of art by taking several trips to Florence Italy. The exposure to great artistic inspirations naturally digested and were the foundation of his creativity.
His photography eye and creative drive blended with painting after attending the New York School of Design. Simultaneously taking a one year mentorship with a highly trained pastel artist, inspired his commitment to move into painting. He worked and painted for several years in NYC. In 1990 he moved to Bucks County, a mecca for landscape painting. He had four solo shows and was represented by three galleries. He entered numerous juried and group shows.
Landscape paintings with water became his main theme, with use of color and light. Trips to the Caribbean and workshops, eventually influenced Michael to paint water in Lyrical Abstraction using activist themes to help save Water
Since 2012 he divides his time between Campobello, SC & Burgundy, France, and continues to convey water both in spiritual abstract and realistic forms. The local waterways in the Carolina mountains to the Caribbean and France's Jura- Burgundy region all become spiritually enlightened paintings to help speak for Climate Change and the inspiration of water.
